Start Time 12:15pm

John Lunt, Director of Human Race Events, has confirmed that the water temperature has reached 23.5 degrees at Dorney Lake and that wetsuits will NOT be allowed for any of the events there this coming weekend (3rd, 4th and 5th July).  Under ITU and BTF ruling, wetsuits are banned when the water temperature is over 22 degrees to avoid overheating and for safety reasons.

Given that such a large number of female athletes now enter our events over the year with many more wanting to give triathlon a go, we've decided that the girls deserve their own event. Consequently we're very excited about staging our third TIMEX WomenOnly Triathlon on Saturday 4th July at Dorney Lake, Eton in support of Breast Cancer Care. So, now's the time to grab your girlfriends and make sure you're part of an event that is going to give you the ultimate feeling of achievement.

Race at an Olympic venue!

The event will be held at the Olympic rowing venue for the 2012 Olympic Games. Dorney Lake offers a clean open water swim, followed by a closed bike loop around the Lake, and finally the run goes down the side of the lake, making it the perfect course for beginners and seasoned triathletes alike. It's great for spectators, they can see you on each lap.

Full on-site parking means you can come and go while the event is taking place, we have showers and toilets aplenty and there is catering and an on-site triathlon store provided by triandrun.

Women v Men - Did you know.?

One of the key differentiators between women's equipment for triathlon and men's is the bike. Here are some facts that you might not know:

Women exert approximately 25% more force on their lower backs than men, when riding a bike in the same position - this is nothing to do with us women being stronger or weaker, it's just that our hip sockets are placed further forward in the pelvis than a man's.

In general a woman's shoulders are less muscular than a man's and less weight can be comfortably accommodated by them - therefore in the more stretched out position of a man's bike, this extra weight put upon the shoulders by leaning further forward, can cause shoulder and neck pain.

Weight distribution differs from women to men; a man's centre of gravity is closer to his shoulders, while a woman's is closer to her hips; this has effects on both ride comfort and handling.

So, with this in mind, if you're keen to take up triathlon and spend time training on your bike, you should seriously consider a bike tailored specifically for you. Bike manufacturers such as Specialized have a range dedicated to women, and it's not just a change of contact points, saddle, grips etc. the whole frame geometry has been designed around a woman's anatomy.
