Go multisport Bananas on Saturday the 15th of September 2012!
The Lidl BananaMan Triathlon is back in 2012 and this year is bigger and better than ever. There are a total of FIVE different takes on the triathlon theme which means there is something for everyone and anyone who wants to swim, bike and run in the UK’s most Bananas multisport event...

Get a Triathlon taster with the Banana Split
The Banana Split is the shortest distance on offer with a 200 metre swim, 5 kilometre bike and 2.5 kilometre run which means it’s perfect for children (over 11), beginners or anyone who wants to blast round the course in the quickest time possible.

For youngsters it’s a great way to experience the thrills of a proper open water triathlon and mix with adult competition for the first time. For beginners it’s the perfect way to take away the fear of the first time race and for everyone else, well why not challenge your friends to a sprint-off! Even the elites are getting in on the short and sharp action with the addition of the Canary Wharf event to the 2012 Super Series and the Banana Split is your chance to do the same!

Anyone for Half a Banana?
Longer than the Banana Split but not quite the full Banana, the Half Banana is right down the middle! A 400 metre swim is followed by a fast and furious 10 kilometre bike ride and rounded off by a 2.5 kilometre run.

Take on the Whole Banana!
The distance isn’t the norm, but then that’s kind of the point! First up you’ve got an 800m open water swim in the clear, clean waters of the rowing lake before taking to the closed, flat road circuit for a 6-lap bike course covering 30k. The final 7.5k run follows a 3 lap loop along the side of the rowing lake on smooth tarmac paths.

Team up and join in the Bunch of Bananas Relay...
The Lidl BananaMan Triathlon is all about getting involved in as many different ways as possible and to help you rope your friends, family and enemies in we’ve added a couple of different relay options. First up you’ve got the traditional Bunch of Bananas Relay. Three people per team with each one completing one discipline of the swim, bike, run event and then handing over to the next. Then we have the Bunch of Bananas TeamTimeTrial. The Tri TTT is a new innovation where all three athletes race together as a team. You’ll all swim, cycle and run together as a unit, and all three have to finish together to score. Normal drafting rules do not apply, in fact its actively encouraged here!

Relay teams can be from pubs, clubs, work, college, uni, anywhere really! They should try to wear the same race kit or T-shirt if possible with extra style points for anything yellow on the day!

RaceLocation

The event will be held at the Olympic rowing venue for the 2012 Olympic Games. Dorney Lake offers a clean open water swim, followed by a closed bike loop around the Lake, and finally the run goes down the side of the lake, making it the perfect course for beginners and seasoned triathletes alike. It's great for spectators, they can see you on each lap.

Full on-site parking means you can come and go while the event is taking place, we have showers and toilets aplenty and there is catering in the Boathouse.

Wetsuit Rules

AllAboutWetsuits

We are often asked if wetsuits have to be worn at our races. But the wearing of wetsuits in triathlon is governed by British Triathlon rules and is totally dependent on water temperature one hour before the start of the race.

Water Temperature Wetsuit Rule
Water temperature less than 14°C wetsuits are COMPULSORY
Water temperature between 14°C and 22°C wetsuits are OPTIONAL (i.e. you can choose whether to wear one or not)
Water temperature above 22°C wetsuits are BANNED

We do say that wetsuits in fact help with buoyancy and warmth, so we strongly recommend that you wear one if they are optional. We will keep you updated with water temperature as we get closer to the event.
