Perfect conditions greeted the runners taking part in the 21st running of RunKingston on Sunday 9th October, with over one thousand taking to the streets of one of London’s most picturesque boroughs over 8.2 and 16 mile distances.
The 8 milers set of first at 8am for one lap of the course, with Justin West winning in a time of 44 minutes 33 seconds. Second place went to Darren Treadaway (Tri-Force) in 46.49 with Hugh Mackenzie (Pro Vo2) completing the podium in 47.04. In the women’s event, Felicity Cole (One Triathlon) took the win in 55.01 with Louisa Vere (Thames Turbo) second in 55.47 and Clare Miller third in 57.16.
Those taking part in the 16 mile event set off at 8.30am with Neil Smith (Anster Haddies) forging a big lead right from the gun and bringing it home with a negative split for the win and a time of 1.33.35. Second place went to Ben Wickham of Victoria Park Harriers in 1.37.25 with Tony Lashmar making it two places on the podium for the east London club in a time of 1.37.40.
Over the longer distance Isobel Rea (West 4 Harriers) ran a well paced race to come from behind to take the win in 1.49.39 with Kate Brown hanging on to second after a flying first lap in a time of 1.51.33. Third place went to Jennifer Armson of Serpentine RC in 1.53.40.
